Sparta Metal Processing is looking for a Human Resource Generalist to join our team in our Sparta, TN office. The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for various functions of the Human Resource department, including talent, compensation, benefits, leave, reporting, and administration of company policies.
The ideal person for this position has proven expertise in Human Resources. This includes benefits administration, talent acquisition, compensation, reporting, benefits and training. To be a competent HR Generalist, you should be patient and compassionate, have excellent listening skills, and be able to multitask effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Assists with recruitment efforts, including job postings, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and conducting reference checks.
- Coordinates new hire onboarding, orientation sessions, and completion of new hire paperwork.
- Maintains accurate and confidential employee files and updates HRIS systems.
- Provides first-line support for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, attendance, and payroll.
- Assists with benefits enrollment, changes, terminations, and communication during open enrollment.
- Reviews employee timecards, assists with payroll submission, and ensures accuracy of payroll related changes.
- Helps track and administer FMLA, leaves of absence, worker’s compensation, and other compliance requirements.
- Prepares HR reports and supports audits such as EEO-1, OSHA, and internal compliance audits.
- Coordinates training sessions, maintains training records, and assists with employee engagement activities.
- Supports HR projects, policy updates, handbook revisions, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Performs general administrative duties including filing, copying, scanning, and preparing HR communications.
- Support Commercial and Finance departments with administrative work (secondary).
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in an HR assistant or generalist role.
- Experience with HRIS systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organization and time-management abilities.
- High level of accuracy, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
